Holiday Snaps: Build a World Around the Frame
Photobox
A still image can become a doorway into an imagined moment, but the journey needs to return to a clear reason for keeping the picture.
Explain why a captured moment is worth keeping. For a fictional seaside sketch, a paper windmill at the edge of the image could connect the still frame to an imagined breeze. That is a more coherent starting point than adding several unrelated effects merely because the format permits them. Draw the still image first, identify the selected detail and describe what changes around it. The expansion should help a viewer understand why this particular moment was kept. If the same movement could accompany any photograph without adjustment, the treatment may be decorating the category rather than revealing something about the chosen image.
